Dansguardian Rebuild (Part 2)

So now I have a server I can SSH to with a static IP address.  Rather than jump right in and install DG again I wanted to get Squid working with authentication as that was where I got stuck last time.

I followed
SQUID with Auth

The most obvious thing that needed changing in a few places is that its ‘squid3’ now – if anything is not working – especially in the Webmin part later – check you have a ‘3’ in the right places.

I also found that the instructions for creating the passwords with htpasswd didn’t work until I’d installed apache “sudo apt-get install apache2”

but after following this I cold set my clients browser proxy settings to port 3128 on the proxy server and get asked for a password.
